Help Troop 26 plan your year!

Over the past two weeks, leadership has been planning next year’s calendar of events. We have already agreed upon some awesome trips, including mountain biking at Mammoth, hiking the North lake – South lake loop in the Sierras, and possibly a trip to several National Parks in Utah. However, we aren’t done. We have yet to choose a summer camp destination, and would also appreciate possible suggestions for skills sessions you would like for our Tuesday night meetings.

Scoutmaster Stewart has provided this helpful document, which includes useful information about nearby summer camps, as well as a link to their website for more details.

If you have input for summer camp or skills sessions, leave a comment here or on facebook or contact someone in Greenbar. For summer camp suggestions, please include opening dates for the summer 2013 session. This will help us leaders determine when the best time to go is. Please submit suggestions before Sunday. Finally, if there is enough interest, I can create an online poll to decide on a final choice for summer camp. No promises though…

Calendar Planning Meetings [late post]

Hey everyone. This bulletine from the Scoutmasters got buried in my email, but half the information is still relevant. See y’all (ONLY GREENBAR) on Tuesday.

Just a reminder to all scouts and parents that there will NOT be regular troop meetings for the next 2 weeks (Aug 14 and 21).  Instead, the Greenbar will be meeting on those nights, at the church, from  7 – 8:30 pm, to plan the troop’s calendar for the next year.  If you are in the current Greenbar, please attend wearing your freshly laundered class A uniform and bring with you the suggestions from the troop on where we should hike and camp for the next scouting year (Oct ’12 – Sept ’13).

Thanks,

Scoutmaster Shaw

August Newsletter

Hopefully all the smelly scouts returning from Philmont have showered by now. The August 2012 Newsletter is now available. There will be no meeting this Tuesday, but Greenbar members are required to meet at normal meeting time and place for a calendar planning session.

UPDATE: Train Delay

Due to a recently derailed freight train, our LA bound train is running several hours late. As a result, we will be taking a later train, arriving around 3 PM. Hopefully the scouts have informed their parents about this change in schedule.

We survived!

Hey everyone! As the title of this post suggests, all 24 members that left for Philmont Scout Ranch two weeks ago survived the 11 day trek and are currently relaxing onboard the Southwest Chief Amtrak Superliner. At the time of this writing, the train was rolling out of Albuquerque station and we were enjoying the delicious deep dish pizza of Pizza 9 in Albuquerque.

We are currently scheduled to arrive in Santa Barbara at 12:48 PM (tomorrow).

Additionally, this Tuesday night will be our first planning meeting. Meet at the church at 7:00 PM in CLASS A.

Final Philmont Reminders

This is it! Troop 26 leaves for Philmont tomorrow. We are meeting at the Santa Barbara Train station @ 12 noon on Saturday, July 28th. Months and months of preparation (not to mention loads and loads of money- in unrelated news, REI is doing very well…) and planning are coming to fruition. However, as you finally get away from your parents for the next two weeks, we ask one final thing…

When your parents drop you off at the train tomorrow, please have them park and come check in with either Mr. Shaw and/or Mr. Stewart. There is one final Philmont form that must be signed by a “responsible” adult. Not that you were necessarily planning on a long, tear-filled goodbye, but I know the temptation to just have your parents slow down a bit, open a door and “Tuck and roll” your way to freedom.

Thanks,

Asst. Scoutmaster Stewart
